Felice Kuan

Felice Kuan is a lyricist, composer, pianist, and math teacher living in New York City. She wrote the book and lyrics for the musicals Epitaph, with composer Hyun-Suk Park, and Knots, with composer Dimitri Landrain, and was the recipient of the 2009 ASCAP Max Dreyfus Award.

In addition to several art song cycles, Felice has written incidental music for children's theatre, the soundtrack for the vampire movie The Sound of Red Snow, and an orchestral piece commissioned by the Arcady Music Festival for its 20th anniversary.

As a pianist, her awards include First Prizes in the Eastman International Young Artists Competition and the Concurs International de Piano Festival de Musica Classica in Puigcerda, Spain. She adores performing concertos, and has appeared as concerto soloist with the Schenectady Symphony, the Princeton University Orchestra, and the Longwood Symphony at the Hatch Shell in Boston.

Felice holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Princeton University and an Ed. M. in Math Education from Harvard University, with an emphasis on urban education. She taught high school for three years before taking a break to study musical theatre writing at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. A graduate of Clarion (the last year it was in Michigan!), she has also studied writing with Edmund White and Toni Morrison.
